PURPOSE:To readily obtain the subject sponge excellent in flexibility in a dry state and useful as a washing tool, dehydrating sheet, etc., for tablewears, etc., at a low cost by blending a specified amount of a reinforcing fiber consisting of a hollow fiber. CONSTITUTION:Crystalline Glauber's salt and viscose is blended with 10-50wt.% (content in sponge) hollow fiber (preferably rayon-based fiber, etc.) with 5-20mm length, 1-6d fineness and a modified cross-section shape 15-50% (of fiber cross section area) of which is the hollow part and formed into a prescribed shape. After coagulation under heating the resultant coagulated material is brought into contact with an aqueous acidic solution to regenerate cellulose and washing and drying are carried out, thus obtaining the objective sponge. |
