PURPOSE:To lengthen the cycle life of a battery by using an alkaline aqueous solution whose zincate ion concentration is 0.1-0.6mol/l as the electrolyte. CONSTITUTION:Nickel hydroxide is used as a positive active material and cadmium hydroxide as a negative active material. By using this specified electrolyte, zincate ions in the electrolyte are adsorbed on the surface of the positive active material. As a result, the conversion of nickel hydroxide into gamma-nickel oxyhydroxide during charging is retarded. Decrease in electrolyte held in a separator is thereby retarded, and the cycle life of a battery is lengthened. |
