<p>The invention aims to provide a phase modulation of a carrier (fo) as a function of a digital signal (D) for which the secondary lobes are highly attenuated and the width of the principal lobe is further reduced in the modulated carrier having uniformally-distributed phase states (O pi ). The modulated carrier comprises first intervals where the phase ( phi ) is stable and equal to the phase state at the end of the proceeding interval in response to a binary state in an elementary interval of the digital signal equal to that in the preceding interval, and second intervals where the phase varies linearly between two consecutive phase states in response to an interval of the digital signal commencing through a binary partition, the direction of rotation of the phase at the commencement of a second interval being determined as a function of a variable (x). The modulated carrier is also equivalent to a modulated signal having three frequency states (f1, fo, f2), the central state of which is the frequency (fo) of the carrier. A phase modulator according to the invention is thus similar to a modulator having three frequency states. <IMAGE></p> |
