The lens grinding machine has a carriage supported for rotation and linear displacement relative to an axis (1), with an attached arm (2) supported by a parallel rail (8) via a roller (11). The latter is rotated relative to an operating element (10) for a measuring sensor (12) attached to the arm (2) e.g. a Hall effect element. Alternatively the measuring sensor uses expansion measuring strips attached to a deformable operating element (10), an optical device, or an electromagnetic or electrical device.
