In a known valve, a sealing element which is not exactly simple is provided to seal off a leakage path between a closing body and a valve housing and to seal off a further leakage path between the closing body and a valve spool. The production and quality control of this sealing element with its somewhat complex cross-sectional area are not without their problems. To allow a sealing element (50) with a geometrically simple cross-sectional area to be installed, a projection (72) is provided on a shoulder (70) of the valve spool (22). The projection (72) can be brought to rest against the sealing element (50). It is thus possible to shut off two leakage paths simultaneously with a single, uncomplicated sealing element (50). The valve is intended essentially for applications in which convenience of manufacture and high reliability as regards sealing are required simultaneously. The valve can, for example, be a metering and fuel distributor valve of a fuel injection system for internal combustion engines. <IMAGE>
