<p>PURPOSE: To measure the flow of blood without injecting liquid and adding heat to a human body, by removing heat from blood flowing in a human body by heat exchange, and measuring the flow using known parameters with respect to the monitored temperature of the blood and the calorie removed. CONSTITUTION: A catheter 101, 301 composed of 5 lumens is used, and a heat exchange apparatus, which placed so as to surround a pair of ports 200, is provided. The both of ports 200 are connected to a single common tube hollow P extending on the lower catheter to an extension tube 203. A balloon 201 is put in the right atrium of a heart of a patient, and filled with a cold liquid from a cooler, so that the blood in the right atrium of the heart and the right cardiac main vein is cooled. The temperature drop in a pulmonary artery is measured by a thermistor arranged along the catheter at the spot indicated by T/F', and an excited current and a temperature signal are transmitted to the thermistor and a controlling and reading unit. In controlling and reading unit, a required calculation is done, that is, the cardiac output is continuously calculated using the appropriate mathematical relation of the cardiac output and the temperature monitored as a time function.</p> |
