The subject matter of the invention is a connecting element which consists of sheet metal and is intended for connecting solid-wood or glued-wood beams in the same plane, which element permits the connection of a (transverse) beam 2 to a longitudinally running beam such that the connecting element cannot even be seen or felt. In this arrangement, the (transverse) beam 2 can be connected, in particular, to a longitudinally running beam 16 such that the longitudinal axis of the beam 2, connected on the end side, is in alignment with the diagonal of the quadrilateral cross-section of the perpendicular beam 16. Furthermore, the use of a sleeve 21 is proposed in order to reduce the contact-pressure forces between a countersunk head screw with a hexagon socket and the wood of the (transverse) beam 2. <IMAGE>
