In order to obtain a simple construction and a reliable function in a hydraulic compensating valve, preferably for steering brake systems of agricultural vehicles, the control valves are designed as ball seat valves (5, 6), the plunger (7) having a central pressure-compensating bore (8) and projecting into the bore of both pistons (2, 3) and being provided with a collar which interacts with the piston end faces (10, 11) opposite one another. <IMAGE>
