PURPOSE:To prevent the reforming performance of catalysts from deteriorating, without complicating a reforming device, by performing operation for reducing heating energy which is supplied by heating means for heating the reforming device, and, after a fixed period of time has elapsed, stopping supply of raw material. CONSTITUTION:Operation for reducing heating energy which is supplied by heating means 8, 9 for heating a reforming device 1 is performed, and, after a fixed period of time has elapsed, supply of raw material is stopped; the fixed period of time is that needed to cause the system to cool down to safety temperature due to endothermic reaction of the raw material during reformation; the safety temperature is range of temperatures within which if oxidation and exothermic reaction of a layer 2 of catalysts should occur due to air entering therein for some reason, the layer 2 of catalysts will not deteriorate by heating above the top critical temperature of its working temperature region. In this case, the catalysts are allowed to cool down promptly by the endothermic reaction of the raw material during steam reforming reaction. The reforming performance of the catalysts can thus be prevented from deteriorating, without complicating the device. |
