PURPOSE:To simply produce quartz glass having no striae toward any direction and having a shape such as thin plate, tube, etc., by filtering a liquid suspension of fine particles obtd. by pulverizing fine silica powder by a wet process, through a filter, compacting the cake to a molded body after drying and sintering the molded body. CONSTITUTION:Quartz glass contg. no striae is produced from fine silica powder by the process described hereunder. A liquid suspension of fine silica particles prepd. by pulverizing fine silica powder in a solvent by a wet process is filtered through a filter. Obtd. cake is dried and molded to a molded body, which is then sintered at high temp. If the sintering at high temp. is performed after compacting the molded body with a rubber press by a dry compression molding process, a percentage of shrinkage during sintering is reduced. Preferred fine silica powder to be used as starting material is one which has been obtd. by calcining at 200-1200 deg.C a hydrolyzed Si alkoxide. Preferred solvent for the wet pulverization is water, alcohol or a mixture thereof. |
