PURPOSE:To cool a catalyst in a reforming apparatus for a fuel cell in a short time with a device having a simple structure by providing a passage for cooling the catalyst, and installing a circulation pump to a pipe line connecting both ends of the passage to a feed tank. CONSTITUTION:A feed material consisting of a mixture of methanol and water in a feed tank 7 is led to a reforming apparatus 1, where it is vaporized and fed to a catalyst bed 2, and converted to reformed gas by the chemical reaction of the catalyst, and fed to a main body of a fuel cell. A cooling passage 41 is provided to near the catalyst in the apparatus 1. The passage 41 is a coil constituted of passages 41a, 41b each being fixed to an external and internal peripheral surfaces of an external case 1b, and passages 41c and 41d each being fixed to an external and internal peripheral surfaces of an internal case 1a, wherein both ends of the passage 41 are connected to a feeding line 42 and return line 43. The line 42 connects to the tank 7 interposing an inlet valve 44 of the cooling passage and a feed pump 5, and the line 43 is connected directly to the tank 7. By circulating the feed material in the tank 7 through the passage 41 in a stage of suspension of the apparatus, the catalyst is cooled quickly to below an activation temp. of the catalyst. |
