摘要 PURPOSE:To reduce erroneous discrimination due to a horizontal high frequency component or noise signal by applying correlation discrimination processing based on a horizontal low frequency component. CONSTITUTION:A correlation discrimination circuit 36 discriminates a direction with the highest signal correlation among vertical direction of a picture around an interpolation picture element and an oblique direction based on a horizontal low frequency component of a Y signal of an existing horizontal scanning line PL outputted from an LPF 33 and a horizontal low frequency component of a Y signal of a preceding horizontal scanning line FL outputted from an LPF 35. A selection circuit 37 selects an interpolation signal of a direction discriminated highest in the signal correlation by the correlation discrimination circuit 36 among plural interpolation signals supplied from an interpolation signal generating circuit 32 as an interpolation signal for moving picture and supplies the signal to a mixture circuit 15. Since a horizontal high frequency signal and a noise signal are not included in the horizontal low frequency component, erroneous discrimination due to a high frequency component or a noise signal is reduced.
