<p>PURPOSE:To obtain a freshness keeping agent effective in absorbing ethylene gas even under high humidity condition and decomposing the ethylene gas without releasing from the agent and having excellent effect to prevent the aging of green vegetables, etc., by adding a hypochlorite (solution) to a gas adsorbent. CONSTITUTION:The objective freshness keeping agent can be produced by adding a hypochlorite (e.g., sodium hypochlorite or bleaching powder) or a solution of hypochloric acid to a gas adsorbent such as natural zeolite, activated carbon, synthetic zeolite, silica gel or activated alumina. The freshness keeping agent produced by the above process is active to adsorb and decompose ethylene gas under highly humid condition and exhibits sterilizing effect. It can be suitably used as a safe and low-cost freshness keeping agent to prevent the post- ripening, over-ripening, and putrefaction of green vegetables.</p> |
