PURPOSE:To improve operability as to a document and to detect a document size when an exposure optical system moves to its starting position by providing a document placing position on an operation side, and setting the start position of the exposure optical system which makes a scan in the forward/backward direction and the initial position on the operation side. CONSTITUTION:A copying paper discharge opening 102 is provided on the upper part of a main body so as to save the space, transfer is carried out while paper is fed from the front side and conveyed inward, and the paper is discharged to a tray 101 at the upper part through the inner side of the copying machine main body. A photosensitve drum 501 rotates clockwise when viewed from the left side of the main body to form a latent image, so an operator sets the document along a document reference scale on the front side as usual and starts copying the document. Consequently, the document is scanned from the tail end and the scanning ends at a reference position, so the document operability is improved. The size of the document G is detected efficiently with reflected light passed through an optical fiber 342 until the document is scanned to the tail end to improve the productivity of copies in automatic form selection mode. |
