PURPOSE: To obtain a medicine composition containing a polysaccharide-containing active ingredient originating from a Cupressaceae plant and useful for treating diseases accompanying leukocytic disorders. CONSTITUTION: This medicine composition contains a polysacchairde-containing active ingredient originated from a Cupressaceae plant. The polysaccharide-containing active ingredient is obtained by grinding the above-ground part of the Cupressaceae plant, especially Thuja occidentalis L., washing the ground product with an organic solvent, subjecting the washed ground product to an extraction treatment with an alkaline aqueous solvent (preferably a 0.1-1.0 N aqueous sodium hydroxide solution), mixing the obtained extract with an organic solvent to precipitate polysaccharides and proteins from the extract, separating the precipitates by a supercentrifugal separation method, etc., dissolving the separated precipitates in water at a lower temperature than the ordinary temperature, acidifying the obtained solution to precipitate the proteins, mixing the supernatant with an organic solvent, dialyzing the obtained precipitates and subsequently drying the dialyzed product. The active ingredient is used for treating diseases accompanying leukocytic disorders, such as diseases caused by retroviruses or lentiviruses or diseases caused by the influences of ionizing radiations. |
