PURPOSE:To impart a good and stable orientational property to the title element even if the element is not rubbed and to reduce the production cost by forming the orientation layer with the thin film of a polyamino acid by dip coating. CONSTITUTION:Electrodes 3 and 3' and the orientation layers 4 and 4' for orienting a liq. crystal 7 are provided on the insides of a couple of opposed base plates 2 and 2', and the orientation layers 4 and 4' are formed with the thin film of a polyamino acid by dip coating. Namely, the liq. crystal molecule is oriented in the specified direction by the dip-coating films 4 and 4' of the polyamino acid even if the films are not rubbed. By this method, a minute-gap liq. crystal cell can be produced in good yield without being affected by the dust, etc., in the air attracted by the frictional electrification of the fine pieces of the rubbing material generated in rubbing. |
