Carboxylic acid cpds. of formula (I) and their pharmaceutically acceptable acid addn. salts are prepared. In (I), Z is (a) or (b); X is CH, CF or N; n is 1-4; n' is 1-4; n+n' is 2-5; n" is 0-2; R1 is H, C1-6 alkyl or cation; R2 is C1-4 alkyl, vinyl, haloalkyl; C2-4 hydroxy alkyl or C3-6 cycloalkyl; R4 is H, C1-4 alkyl, C2-4 hydroxyalkyl, trifluoroethyl or R7CO-; R5 is H or C1-3 alkyl; R6 is H or C1-3 alkyl; R7 is C1-4 alkyl or C1-4 alkoxy. (I) have an antibacterial activity.
