PURPOSE:To prevent the generation of mold in vegetables in a stock house and the decomposition of the vegetable and to suppress the aging of vegetables and the blooming of flowers by irradiating a gas with ultraviolet radiation, removing generated ethylene oxide from the gas and circulating the obtained freshness-keeping environment gas in the stock house. CONSTITUTION:A freshness-keeping environment gas containing ethylene generated from vegetables in a main chamber 1 of a stock house is introduced into a subsidiary chamber 2 through an inlet 6 and sterilized by the irradiation with ultraviolet ray of 184.9nm wavelength and of 253.7nm wavelength emitted from ultraviolet lamps 3A, 3B. O3 generated by the ultraviolet ray of 184.9nm wavelength is made to react with ethylene to generate ethylene oxide. The gas is passed through an ethylene oxide removing means 4 to remove ethylene oxide and circulated to the main chamber 1 via an outlet 7 with a fan 5.
