PURPOSE:To enable easy and accurate estimation of the existence, dimensions, etc. of a defect by a method wherein ultrasonic waves of prescribed incident angles are transmitted to a point to be tested of a structure from first and second ultrasonic probes and two reflected waves are synthesized from the coordinates of the routes of these waves. CONSTITUTION:A first ultrasonic probe 51 detecting a defect in a structure 1 in advance transmits an ultrasonic wave of an incident angle of 45 degrees to a defect 3 in the structure 1. A second ultrasonic probe 52 detecting further the defect in the structure 1 which is detected by the first probe transmits an ultrasonic wave of an incident angle of 60 degrees to the defect 3 in the structure 1. A second reflected wave is obtained thereby, the coordinates of the route of the second reflected wave are converted into those of the route of a first reflected wave, the first and second reflected waves are synthesized thereafter, and the result of the synthesis is displayed by a mixer 10. Since two informations are obtained as to one point to be tested, according to this method, the position, dimensions, etc. of the defect in the structure can be discriminated accurately. |
