Conveying device comprising, on a frame 10, a horizontal transporter 12 with two synchronous drive chains which are mounted in parallel at a distance D from each other, each forming a closed loop in the vertical plane, each including an upper portion and a lower portion each arranged on a profiled section 22 whose inner faces are separated by a distance d, and rectangular pallets 50 conveyed by this transporter parallel to their width l, characterised in that the length L of a pallet 50 is greater than the distance D which separates the two chains on which the pallets rest and the width l is smaller than the distance d separating the inner faces of the profiled sections 22 in order to enable at least one handling station 14, 16, rising, descending and rotating in the horizontal plane, to transfer certain pallets by means of passages between the two chains after having caused them to turn through 90 DEG . <IMAGE>
