The addition of L-carnitine to commercially available dog food prevents the occurrence of dilated cardiomyopathy. On average, the addition of 0.25 g of L-carnitine for this purpose is necessary in the daily feed of the animals, taking into account the amount of carnitine usually consumed from the commercially available animal feed.
