<p>To maintain a fluid-gas dispersion in a vertical receptacle 2, which contains a substrate such as effluent, sewage or the like to be treated with gas, an upward-directed more or less helical turbulent flow of the fluid-gas dispersion is produced in receptacle 2, so that the flow path is substantially increased compared with the height of receptacle 2 and thus the dwell time of the gas in substrate 3 is appropriately extended.
