Silage is preserved by treatment with Propionibacterium jensenii (I) strains: (a) P-9 (ATCC 53961), and (b) P-Fargo (ATCC 53962). Amt. of (I) is 10 power 8 - 10 power 14 esp. 10 power 10 - 10 power 12 partic. ca 10 power 11 organisms/ton. Pref. the method also includes treatment with a Lactobacillus sp., partic. L plantarum ATCC 53187 or equiv.
