PURPOSE:To obtain a hybrid fiber having excellent mechanical properties and useful for the reinforcement of metals by immersing a continuous inorganic fiber bundle in a suspension of an interposition material selected from powder, short fiber and whisker of heat-resistant material, thereby applying the interposition material to the surface of the fiber. CONSTITUTION:An organic material used as a lubricant is dissolved in a suspension of an interposition material selected from powder, short fiber and whisker of heat-resistant material. A continuous inorganic fiber bundle is immersed in the suspension to apply the above interposition material to the surface of the fiber constituting said fiber bundle and coat the surface of said continuous fiber and/or the interposition material with said organic material. |
