发明名称 FERROELECTRIC LIQUID CRYSTAL ELEMENT
摘要 PURPOSE:To provide a display of a high contrast with a uniform orientation state and high bistability by forming org. high-polymer films which can generate a pretilt angle higher by at least 10 deg. on substrate surfaces and subjecting the films to a rubbing treatment. CONSTITUTION:A soln. of such as polyimide which can apply >=10 deg. pretilt angle or polyamic acid which is the precursor thereof is applied by spin coating, etc., on the electrode surfaces of a pair of the substrates with transparent electrodes and the coatings are heat treated generally at 100 to 450 deg.C, by which the films having 100 to 5,000Angstrom thickness are formed. The film surfaces are thereafter rubbed by a cloth, etc., in one direction to form orientation control films. The film surfaces are then disposed to face each other via spacers having 1 to 5X grain size and the substrates are stuck to each other by paralleling or antiparalleling the rubbing directions. The ferroelectric liquid crystal is thereafter injected and heated to the temp. above isotropic temp. of the liquid crystal and is slowly cooled down to room temp. The ferroelectric liquid crystal element which exhibits the sufficient bistability with the uniform orientation is obtd. in such a manner.
