PURPOSE:To obtain a whisker reinforced calcium phosphate-based sintered body which has high strength and high toughness and is excellent in biological affinity and little in alumina content by constituting this sintered body of such a structure that a diopside whisker is dispersed and incorporated in a matrix made of a granular crystalline calcium phosphate-based compd. as a main body. CONSTITUTION:A composite type sintered body is formed of both a matrix made of a granular crystalline calcium phosphate-based compd. as a main body and a diopside whisker dispersed and incorporated therein. The size of the diopside whisker is ordinarily about 0.05-2000mum long diameter, about 0.05-100mum short diameter and about 1.2-100 aspect ratio. Further as the content of the diopside whisker in the composite type sintered body, the range of about 0.5-95wt.% is ordinarily selected. This composite type sintered body is obtained by adding the prescribed amount of the diopside whisker or the component for producing a prescribed whisker to the calcium phosphate-based compd. (e.g., apatite hydroxide, tricalcium phosphate), mixing and calcining this mixture. |
