PURPOSE:To reduce power load and to improve the durability of a gear system by constituting in such a way that the rotating operation of stirring members and a developing sleeve are stopped when developing is not performed. CONSTITUTION:When a developing device 10 slides on a developing garage 30 in the direction of a photosensitive drum 3 by the action of a press member 31, a follower gear G4 and an idle gear G3 mesh together, and the rotational power of a driving gear G1 is transmitted to all follower gears concurrently by turning on a copying switch. Therefore, the developing sleeve 11, a main stirring member 14, and a substirring member 19 are drivened to be rotated only while developing is processed, by turning on electromagnetic clutches C1-C3 in synchronism with an image forming process. Thus, waste of power, and unnecessary wear of each gear can be avoided by turning off each electromagnetic clutch when developing is not processed. |
