PURPOSE: To produce Ta flaked powder excellent in surface area, purity, shrinkability, compressability, green strength and fluidity and excellent in electric characteristics as those for electric capacitors by working and pulverizing Ta powder obtd. by a chemical reducing method or pulverization from an ingot into a flaked shape. CONSTITUTION: Ta powder obtd. by reducing K2 TaF7 with Na or Ta powder obtd. by hydrogenating a Ta ingot to brittlen the material, thereafter pulverizing it by a mill and executing dehydrogenation is subjected to flattening pulverization by a mechanical method with a ball mill, a rod mill, a roll mill or the like to reduce the size of the flake particles until a Scott density greater than 18 g/in<3> is achieved, and the size constitution in which at least about 90% of the flake particles has no dimension greater than about 45 μm. This Ta flaked powder has excellent fluidity and compressability, furthermore, is large in surface area and has excellent characteristics as the raw material for electric capacitors. |
