PURPOSE:To improve and stabilize the strength and toughness of Al2O3-based ceramics by uniformly dispersing a prescribed percentage of SiC whiskers having a regulated O content in Al2O3 powder and by sintering the resulting powdery mixture under pressure. CONSTITUTION:10-10wt.% SiC whiskers having 0.3-1.5wt.%) content are uniformly dispersed in Al2O3 powder and the resulting powdery mixture is sintered under pressure to form Al2O3-based ceramics. This ceramics is free from coarse grains, contains uniformly dispersed SiC whiskers and has high strength and toughness always stably. |
