PURPOSE:To control the development progressability and obtain an excellent fixability by specifying the swelling rate of emulsion layers to >=300% and incorporating a specific compd. therein. CONSTITUTION:The swelling rate of the emulsion layers (the swelling rate after immersion for 3 minutes in distilled water kept at 25 deg.C) is >=300% and the emulsion layers contain the compd. expressed by the formula I. In the formula, A denotes a monomer unit formed by copolymerizing such a copolymerizable monomer which has at least two copolymerizable ethylenic unsatd. groups and contains at least one thereof in the side chain; B denotes a monomer unit copolymerized with the copolymerizable ethylenic unsatd. monomer; E denotes a monomer unit formed by copolymerizing a copolymerizable ethylenic unsatd. monomer having at least one anionic functional group; x, y, z denote the molar fractions of the respective components; x attains the values of 0.1 to 50, y of 0 to 95, and z of 1 to 90. The amt. of the compd. to be added is 0.01 to 100wt.% the weight of the gelatin in the layers contg. the compd. The adequate development progressability is obtd. in this way and the fixability is improved. |
