PURPOSE: To obtain a preformed polymer free of monomer and capable of reacting with a polymer-monomer mixture by forming the surface of the preformed, optically authentic, thin, sound, continuously integrated and wettable hydrophilic polyer on the entire interface of a hydrophobic polymer. CONSTITUTION: The surface of the preformed, optically authentic, thin, sound, continuously integrated and wettable hydrophilic polymer is formed on a hydrophilic polymer tightly bonded by many covalent bonds substantially distributed over the entire polymer surface/polymer substrate interface on the reaction- cast, substantially hydrophobic polymer. The hydrophilic polymer is a polymer contg. many step-growth reactive functional groups and selected from water-soluble vinyl polymer, carbohydrate polymer, etc., or a substantially water-soluble polymer having many chain-propagation reactive functional groups. Consequently, the preformed polymer free of monomer and capable of reacting with a polymer- monomer mixture is obtained. |
