The object of the invention is to improve the safety of monitored mechanical ventilation installations protected by a pressure switch for detecting an operating defect in the extraction device. For the purpose of overcoming an operating defect in the pressure switch 2 its operation is sequentially monitored by simulating, on its detection circuit 3, an operating defect in the extraction device 1, and during this monitoring phase, the safety system of the pressure switch is short-circuited in order to keep the monitored mechanical ventilation in operation. The invention makes it possible to obtain absolutely reliable positive safety of such installations. <IMAGE>
