PURPOSE:To obtain the good orientability which is uniform and defectless by incorporating an oriented film consisting of a specific high-polymer compd., polynuclear arom. compd. and Langmuir-Blodgett's film compd. into the above element. CONSTITUTION:The high-polymer compd. contg. at least one 10 to 30C hydrocarbon-contg. groups which have the linear repeating units alternately connected by a bivalent 1st org. group having at least two carbon atoms and a bivalent 2nd org. group having at least two carbon atoms by bivalent bond groups, and are bonded to the same repeating units by covalent bonding and may contain a substituent and the polynuclear arm. compd. and if desired, the known Langmuir-Blodgett's film compd. are mixed at arbitrary ratios and the mixture composed thereof is developed on a water surface, and thereby the monomolecular film mixture is obtd. The thin layers obtd. by laminating >=1 layers of such films on a substrate on which an electrode layer is formed are used as the oriented film for controlling the orientation of a liquid crystal. The liquid crystal oriented film which is uniform and defectless and has the good orientability is obtd. in this way. |
