The invention relates to a process and device for guiding several winding rolls, a web of material being wound on one and off the other before being taken back for winding-on. With the purpose in particular of simplifying the device and making it easier to handle, it is proposed to drive each of the winding rolls (13) only during winding on a horizontal section of the web (14), to insert a bolt horizontally into the bearings (15) on each side of the winding roll (13) after the finished winding has been pulled off, to lift the winding roll (13) on both sides at the bolts (16) and to take it back to its initial position over the other winding rolls by pushing it horizontally and lowering it.
