The invention relates to a method and a device for the control of the filling level of an air separator, especially for air separators in arrangements for measuring the quantity and delimiting the quantity of milk, according to the preamble of Claim 1. By means of a method of this type and a device for carrying it out, it is ensured, inter alia, that a desired level is approached in a controlled fashion with approximately the maximum delivery rate of the device and is held within a specifiable range of fluctuation. This is achieved, inter alia, according to the proposed method by increasing the absolute pressure in the head-space of the air separator upon reaching a maximum level and, after leaving the maximum level, by removing the measure defining the pressure increase. A device for carrying out the method proposes, inter alia, for this purpose that a third position pick-up (3; 3<*>) is provided which opens a deaeration cross-section (11) connected to the head-space (4) of the air separator (3) upon reaching the maximum level (H), and closes the said cross-section (11) upon leaving the maximum level (H) (Figure 1b). <IMAGE>
