Impression tray for preparation of an impression of a human jaw with teeth, comprising a shaped jacket provided with a U-shaped groove cross-section in the region of the row of teeth, the jacket having an edge at the side of the oral vestibule and an edge at the tongue side or on a palatinal edge. On making the impression the shaped jacket is filled with an impression composition having a high viscosity and is pressed onto the row of teeth, so that the edge at the side of the oral vestibule and the edge at the tongue side or the edge palatinal end at the movable mucous membranes of the jaw beyond the active border of the movable mucous membranes. The edge at the side of the oral vestibule and the edge at the tongue side or the edge palatinal are pressed onto the movable mucous membranes. The impression tray is chosen such that the shaped jacket surrounds the associated row of teeth and at the sides the immovable mucous membranes at a clear spacing of less than 5 mm when the edges are pressed onto the movable mucous membranes. At least in the side wall which leads to the edge at the side of the oral vestibule, the U-shaped groove cross-section has perforations which are arranged in the region of the movable mucous membranes. <IMAGE>
