PURPOSE:To make it possible to prevent breaking and damage of a beta-alumina solid electrolyte tube even though rise and tall of the temperature of a cell are repeated by forming a glass membrane layer on the peripheral surface of the beta-alumina solid electrolyte tube. CONSTITUTION:In a beta-alumina solid electrolyte tube 5 connected to the inner periphery of an insulator ring 3 and furnishing a function to permeate sodium ion selectively, a glass thin layer is formed on the outer periphery of the beta-alumina solid electrolyte tube 5 by the alcoxide method. When the glass thin layer is formed, the glass is buried in the recesses of the peripheral surface of the beta-alumina solid electrolyte tube 5, the glass is coated thinly on the projections, and the outer peripheral surface of the solid electrolyte tube 5 is made in a smooth surface. Consequently, breaking of the beta-alumina electrolyte tube 5 can be prevented. |
