Method for braking an asynchronous motor with DC current which is supplied to the motor, in which method the motor 1 is braked by supplying DC current from a three-phase network L1, L2, L3, N at least through one pair of semiconductor couplers T1, T2, the first electrodes of which pair of semiconductor couplers T1, T2 are connected to the first phase U of the motor, the second electrode of the first semiconductor coupler T1 is connected to the second phase L2 of the network or to neutral N, the second electrode of the first semiconductor coupler T1 is connected to the second phase V of the motor and the second electrode of the second semiconductor coupler T2 is connected to the first phase L1 of the network, so that the first semiconductor coupler T1 is controlled by a signal which is received from the third phase W of the motor and the second semiconductor coupler T2 at times which are determined by a signal from the third phase W of the motor. <IMAGE>
