PURPOSE:To enhance the reliability of a waveguide type optical device to a temp. change during the use thereof by fixing a cylindrical member inserted and fixed with an optical fiber by soldering into a V-groove formed on the extension of the light guide on a waveguide substrate. CONSTITUTION:A groove 6 is so formed as to expose the end face 4a of the light guide 4 formed on the waveguide substrate 2 and the V-groove 8 is formed apart the groove 6 on the extension of the light guide 4. On the other hand, the optical fiber 16 is inserted and fixed into the cylindrical member 18 consisting of the same material as the material of the substrate 2 in such a manner that the front end 16a thereof projects slightly. The cylindrical member 18 is imposed in the V-groove 8 and while the front end 16a of the optical fiber 16 and the end face 4a of the waveguide 4 are held to face each other, a metallic film 10 formed on the substrate 2 near the V-groove 8 and a metallic film 20 formed on the outer periphery of the cylindrical member 18 are fixed by soldering. Since the films are fixed without using an adhesive agent, the reliability to the temp. change is enhanced and the large fixing power is obtd. by adjusting the power by the area of the metallic films 10, 20. |
