The invention concerns novel 5-allyl-1,3-dioxane derivatives of the formula VII VII having cis relative stereochemistry at positions 4 and 5 of the dioxane ring and wherein Ra and Rb are variously hydrogen, alkyl, halogenoalkyl, alkenyl, and optionally substituted aryl or arylalkyl, and benzene ring B is optionally substituted phenyl. The 5-allyl-1,3-dioxanes are useful intermediates in the preparation of 1,3-dioxan-5-ylalkenoic acid derivatives that antagonise one or more of the actions of thromboxane A2 (TXA2) and are of value in those disease conditions in which TXA2 is involved.
