PURPOSE: To securely prevent knocking occurrence by correcting an ignition point obtained from a characteristic diagram in a suitable retard direction as taking into consideration of dynamic operation of an internal combustion engine, and subsequently carrying out the control to return the ignition point in an advance direction till a proper characteristic-diagram ignition point. CONSTITUTION: In control of an ignition point according to ignition point characteristics in relation to intake pipe pressure, intake air temperature and engine rotation frequency, when a selectable predetermined intake pipe pressure variationΔp is exceeded, a characteristic ignition pointα2 instantaneously valid in a selectable predetermined time range t2 to t1 is switching controlled to a correction ignition point in a 'retard' direction. In this case, a correction value is selected for securely preventing knocking, and thus surely suppressing knocking occurrence. Next, the corrected ignition point is adjusted to the suitable characteristic ignition pointα2 in an 'advance' direction within the selectable predetermined time range.
