An org. cpd., e.g. amine and fatty amine is stabilized by adding 10- 1000 wt. ppm NaBH4 and 5-500 wt. ppm Ni salt i.e. NiCl2 againt discoloration; and the compsn. is distd.. Pref. the org. cpd. is aniline, 2-(ethylamine)ethanol or EDTA. The method is partic. effective for relatively short chain amines, e.g. EDTA. A synergistic effect is obtd. using small quantities NaBH4 and NiCl2.
