<p>An apparatus for use in cold-starting an internal combustion engine has a cold-starting valve (10) and a tank venting valve (12) connected in parallel, one of which can supply extra fuel to the engine during cold starting and the other of which purges the fuel tank. The cold-starting valve is also connected in series with a temperature-dependent switch (14) which closes at temperatures of -5°C or lower, whereas the tank venting valve is effective at temperatures at or greater than +10°C. A control device (18) determines when additional fuel is required for cold starting. After starting, the control device can also actuate the valves (10, 12) and since the ranges of operation of the two additional fuel valves (10, 12) do not overlap, only one of the valves can work. In this way, regulation by one of the additional fuel valves (10, 12) does not affect the regulation of the other, and a single control device (18) can perform two functions.</p> |
