The known protection arrangement is to be improved in such a way that it guarantees immediate readiness for use for especially critical applications, e.g. for retention protection for environmentally hazardous liquid media. To this end, the tarpaulin which serves as a protective surface and can be acted upon overall by a pressure medium is permanently mounted with its sealing tube in the base element anchored in the ground. When the pressure medium acts on the tarpaulin, immediate binding of the sealing tube in the base element is obtained and as a result a protective surface is formed at the same time. The base element can be provided with a loosely seated, top cover.
