Deflection-type absorber

A deflection-type absorber for the fastening, in a yielding fashion, of a bumper to the frame side member of a vehicle body has a regenerating hydraulic, gas or solid shock absorber and a non-regenerating deformation element, which is arranged downstream of the latter, to take up energy. The deformation element and the operating cylinder of the shock absorber are arranged in a casing which is fastened to the frame side member. In order to allow the deflection-type absorber to be of simple design and be easy to disassemble, the casing takes the form of a guiding container which tightly encloses the operating cylinder and the deformation element takes the form of an energy absorber which fills the guiding container, while resting against the container floor, in the container section situated immediately in front of the container floor. To enable to deflection-type absorber to be fastened, there is fixedly connected to the guiding container a coaxially fastening plate in the vicinity of the edge of the container, the dimensions of the said fastening plate being such that it is supported by the end face of the hollow frame side member.
