Graphite of a graphite molding can be substituted by bringing the molding into contact with a mixed gas of a vapor of an oxygen-containing boron compound and a nitrogen-containing gas and heating it to 1400 to 2200°C. On the basis of this principle is obtained a boron nitride-covered graphite wherein boron nitride firmly covers a graphite material or a boron nitride composite material wherein boron nitride is firmly bound to ceramic fibers. These composite materials can be used in a wide field as less expensive industrial materials such as jigs for molten metal, high-temperature electric materials, high-temperature structural materials, heat-resistant materials, heat-insulating materials, etc. utilizing the properties of boron nitride since neither delamination nor separation takes place between boron nitride and the composite material covered by it.
|
