A motor vehicle 1 having a closed box body 2 which is accessible through doors 3 and 4 is designed as a so-called people carrier and to increase its utility value is provided with interior fittings which can be converted in many ways. Two benches 19 and 20 are each of a width which falls short of the distance between the wheel arches on both sides within the box body 2. The two benches 19 and 20 are arranged such that they can be displaced over most of the length of the box body 2 in the longitudinal direction of the vehicle, and such that they can be secured. The region of the pushed-forward normal position of the front bench 19 is assigned a table which can be swung up from at least one longitudinal wall of the vehicle. This table can only be moved between its swung-down rest position and its swung-up use position when the front bench 19 is in a position in which it is slid back from the normal position.
