The material is produced from a precursor which has been obtained by melting, solidifying and subsequently comminuting a mixture containing silicon dioxide and alkaline earth metal oxide, preferably calcium oxide, in a molar ratio of 1 : 1 to 1 : 1.3. The precursor is then usually pasted with binders based on compounds containing silicon-oxygen bonds or solutions containing amphoteric hydroxides, shaped and then fired at from 300 to 1450@C. The product is particularly suitable for lining vessels for receiving silicon melts such as, for instance, in extraction processes for producing solar silicon. |
