The invention relates to a pump appliance, especially to a pump for use with low energy expenditure, comprising a pump body which has a control element, a sheet-like stiff retaining element with a bottom face and an elastically flexible, film or plate-like edge section directed laterally outward in the direction of extension of the bottom face and around the bottom edge thereof, the underside of the edge section and at least the outer edge zone, situated towards the bottom edge, of the bottom face forming a working plane in a transition zone, and a working surface which acts as a pump plate and on which the face of the pump body underside bears, at least in part, in a freely movable manner, a passage being provided which communicates with an intake pipe or an intake hose and opens into that zone of the pump plate which is situated between the bottom face and that zone of the pump plate which bears thereon or adjoins it.
