The process comprises the steps of covering a cable core with a laminating tape (3) which is fed from a pad (4) and wrapped longitudinally around the core (1) supplied from a reel (2) to a former (5) which ensures tape overlap. Bunching of the overlapped portions is prevented by a jig (6) and they are squeezed by a die (7) prior to fusion by hot air from a heating unit (8). The pressing device comprises three rollers (11-13) at a single position, each having a concave arc length (11A,12A,13A) equal to onethird of the circumference of the core (1), which consequently cannot ride out of contact with the rollers.
